Why LitBuy treats perfume as a limited item
The rule sits in LitBuy's "Notes Before Purchasing": medicine, liquids, creams, powder and cosmetics are "limited in shipping by Chinese exporting goods", and buyers should contact customer support before purchasing. A bottle of fragrance is a liquid and a cosmetic at once, so both lines of that rule apply. Other texts add to it. The disclaimer, read on 19 October 2026, says items with essential oils, care solutions and lubricants "will be removed", and warns that large quantities of liquids may meet customs restrictions for which LitBuy takes no responsibility. The prohibited policy lists aerosols and flammables as hazardous materials and puts cosmetics on a case-by-case list that may need documents and carrier acceptance.
None of this says "no perfume", and none says "yes". It says the answer depends on the bottle, the line and the destination, which is why a perfume row on a spreadsheet is a question mark until support replies. The LitBuy spreadsheet basics explain how a row becomes an order.
| Format | Relevant LitBuy text | Our reading |
|---|---|---|
| Spray bottle, pump | Liquids and cosmetics are limited | Ask support first |
| Aerosol body spray | Aerosols listed as hazardous | Treat as prohibited |
| Oil-based roll-on | Essential oils removed (disclaimer) | High risk of removal |
| Solid or balm | Cosmetics, case by case | Ask support first |
| Gift set with candle | Several categories at once | Split the row |
Perfume is neither banned nor cleared; the ticket to support decides it.
When the row shows no route: the help article, in plain words
LitBuy has a help article titled "What's the situation when there are no routes to choose from when submitting a package for shipping?" Its answer is a short process. When goods arrive at the warehouse, staff set mailing restrictions from the product's attributes. When you submit a parcel, the system filters the available routes against those restrictions. If none is left, you can check the reason and change the parcel, or contact online support to verify. A second help article adds that restrictions carry across a combined parcel: if one item is limited, the whole shipment is limited, and an item marked "individually packaged" cannot ship with others.
The important consequence for a fragrance buyer is that a bottle can hold up a whole haul. Put a perfume row in the same parcel as jeans and the parcel inherits the perfume's restriction. LitBuy suggests choosing the route according to the item's shipping limit, which in practice means sending the bottle separately. LitBuy's article also allows support to modify a restriction when you understand the goods, but the platform decides, and if it agrees you "bear the risks".
- Check the order page for a limit note on the bottle after it is stocked.
- Remove the bottle from the combined parcel and see whether routes return.
- Open a ticket with the row link, destination and bottle size; ask which line applies.
- Get the answer in writing before you pay for the parcel, not only for the item.
If no route appears, split the bottle off and ask; do not guess at a line.
Which lines carry liquids: what is public and what is not
LitBuy publishes no table of lines by cargo type. The estimator we ran on 19 October 2026 used destination and weight with general goods, so it priced lines without telling us which would refuse a bottle. The one hint is an Italian interface string, which says that pastes and liquids, like batteries and magnets, ship under tougher conditions at higher rates and are better sent alone. So expect a liquid parcel to cost more than the general-goods quote, and do not treat our table as a price for fragrance. It only shows the lines and size limits you will be choosing between.
| Line | Days | 1,000 g | Size limit (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| LIT-Economy-DHL-DE | 10–15 | €24.12 ($27.10) | 60 × 50 × 40 |
| LIT-Quickly-DHL-DE | 8–13 | €24.42 ($27.44) | 60 × 50 × 40 |
| JSF-DHL-DE-1 | 8–13 | €25.84 ($29.03) | 120 × 60 × 60 |
| HF-EMS-DE (duties payable) | 12–25 | €44.05 ($49.49) | 150 × 150 × 300 |
For France, the cheapest tax-free line was LIT-Quickly-GOFO-FR at €23.75 for 1 kg, and LIT-Electronic-DHL-FR, the line named for electronics, was €37.28. Whether a fragrance may use either, we could not verify. The shipping cost page has every quote, and the customer service page explains how to raise a ticket and what answer to expect.
LitBuy does not publish liquid-friendly lines, so only support can name one for your bottle.
Glass, leaks and the fragile rule
Perfume bottles are glass, and LitBuy's disclaimer names ceramics, glassware and irregular items as fragile, "subject to wear and breakage" in transit. The text then splits responsibility. LitBuy says it guarantees integrity before shipment; if an item is damaged in transport and the logistics provider classes it as fragile, the loss is the buyer's. The Receipt Notes approach it from the claims side: whatever the packaging, a fragile item can be claimed when lost but not when broken. A bottle that arrives cracked is therefore a damage case, and a lost parcel is a loss case.
A leak adds a second problem. The Receipt Notes state that dangerous or prohibited goods are not eligible for compensation at all, and that flammable liquids are one example. Inspection normally swaps the courier box for a self-sealing bag, though fragile goods may stay in their box, as actually handled. A single ticket asking that the retail carton stays in place, plus the reinforcement service (roughly ¥10 an item, plus materials), costs little beside a ¥219 bottle.
Open the parcel on camera in front of the courier, as the help says, because the 48-hour window to file with the carrier starts at the delivered scan. The returns page covers refunds if the item is wrong rather than damaged.
Assume a cracked bottle is yours to bear, and pay for protection before it ships.
Parfum, Cologne, Eau de Toilette: search terms and what they mean here
Some German and French buyers search "litbuy spreadsheet parfum" or "cologne" and mean the same thing as the English page: a row for a bottle of fragrance. The category label does not change LitBuy's rule. Parfum, eau de toilette and cologne are all liquids with an alcohol base in ordinary use, so each is a limited item.
When a spreadsheet gives only a name, ask the seller for volume in millilitres and whether the box is sealed. A sealed retail carton matters twice: LitBuy needs perfume's one-time sealed packaging intact if you ever request a return, and the warehouse inspects quantity, colour and size but does not test scent or authenticity. A bottle that looks fine in a photo cannot be confirmed as a particular fragrance by anyone at LitBuy, a point echoed in its disclaimer on branded goods.
Whatever the label, a bottle of fragrance is a liquid, and it is sealed or it is not.
Customs on perfume: VAT, duty and what we could not confirm
For Germany, import VAT is 19% and France 20%, both from the first euro since 1 July 2021. Since 1 July 2026 the EU also charges a temporary flat €3 customs duty per tariff category in low-value parcels worth up to €150, until 1 July 2028. LitBuy has charged a flat €3 per parcel on its EU tax-prepaid lines since 24 June 2026, and it announced a €2 fee per parcel from 25 October 2026. Perfume has a longer history of special treatment: the European Commission's guide to buying goods from outside the EU notes that the old €150 customs-duty exemption never covered perfumes and eaux de toilette, so check with the carrier or customs before ordering several bottles.
A bottle with a famous name raises the trademark question covered on our customs page: EU customs can detain suspected trademark-infringing goods, and LitBuy's policy prohibits them. On EMS lines marked "Duties Payable by Recipient" you pay the tax and any carrier charge at delivery.
Expect 19% VAT in Germany on any route where LitBuy does not pay it for you.
Worked example: two bottles to Germany, if support names a line
Assume two 100 ml bottles at ¥219 each, converted at ¥1 ≈ €0.12. Assume each boxed bottle weighs 0.35 kg (assumed, not measured) and that two with padding go in a 20 × 12 × 16 cm box, which is 0.48 kg by volume at 8,000, so the actual 0.7 kg falls under the 1,000 g quote. We use LIT-Economy-DHL-DE at its list price of €24.12 on 19 October 2026, with the €2 parcel fee. This is a placeholder: the quote is for general goods, and a liquid-capable line may cost more.
Two bottles to Germany, one parcel (hypothetical)
Bottle one, ¥219€26.28
Bottle two, ¥219€26.28
Shipping, 1,000 g quote€24.12 ($27.10)
€2 fee, EU parcels€2.00
Total delivered€78.68
The goods come to €52.56 and €26.12 for shipping and fee, so freight is a third of the total and €13.06 per bottle. On the EMS line at €44.05 the shipping alone would be €19.93 higher. To France, LIT-Quickly-GOFO-FR at €23.75 plus the €2 fee gives €78.31. A ¥20 rehearsal parcel (about €2.40) fixes the weight before you pay. Settle each order and parcel as you place it. For a delivered price without an account, find the WhatsApp QR on the contact page. For softer rows to share the parcel, see the accessories page.
Two bottles cost €78.68 on a placeholder line; a liquid line may cost more.
Questions buyers ask
Can I ship perfume through LitBuy to Germany?
LitBuy lists medicine, liquids, creams, powder and cosmetics as limited items and tells buyers to contact customer support before purchasing. It does not publish an approved list of lines or bottles. So the answer is a ticket, not a yes or no. Send the row link and your German address, and wait for support to name a line.
Why does my perfume row show no shipping route?
LitBuy's help says staff set mailing restrictions on an item once it reaches the warehouse, and the system filters routes accordingly. If nothing remains, you can check the reason or ask support to review the restriction. Support may allow a change if the goods qualify, but then you carry the risk. Expect this on liquids more than on clothing.
Does LitBuy compensate me if a perfume bottle breaks?
Only partly. Glass counts as fragile, and LitBuy says it guarantees integrity before shipment, but losses on items the carrier judges fragile are the buyer's. Its Receipt Notes add that fragile items are eligible for loss claims, not damage claims. Open the parcel on camera, keep the box, and ask about the ¥10 reinforcement service before you ship.
Is body spray or an aerosol perfume allowed?
Probably not. LitBuy's prohibited policy lists aerosols, flammables and gases among hazardous materials. Its purchase notes also say alcohol is not accepted, and perfume normally contains alcohol, though LitBuy does not say how that applies to a bottle. Treat any spray can as prohibited and ask support about a pump bottle in writing before buying.
Do I pay VAT on perfume bought through LitBuy in Germany?
Yes, German import VAT is 19% on goods from outside the EU, from the first euro. On LitBuy's tax-free lines, LitBuy says it handles customs, duties and VAT, so you do not pay at the door. On the EMS line, quoted €44.05 at 1 kg on 19 October 2026, the line is labelled 'Duties Payable by Recipient' and you pay on delivery.
Can I return a perfume that arrives opened or wrong?
Before shipping, LitBuy's return standard keeps perfume returnable only while its factory seal is intact, and a return costs freight both ways plus a ¥5 service fee, about €0.60. After delivery abroad you must contact support first and the return shipping is yours. Do not open the carton until you have checked the seal on camera.
