Box weight: why a shoe row weighs more than the shoe
A pair of trainers is light for its size, which is the problem. The shoe itself may weigh under a kilo, but the parcel is priced on the greater of its actual weight and its volumetric weight, and a shoebox is mostly air. Few spreadsheet rows list either number. LitBuy's estimator takes only destination and weight, so for shoes you must supply a weight that already includes packing, or let a LitBuy rehearsal parcel measure it for a fixed ¥20 (about €2.40).
What happens to the box on arrival is partly documented. LitBuy's inspection rules say original boxes are removed and items repacked in self-sealing bags, with fragile or oversized items possibly keeping the box. LitBuy also lists a "Remove Original Packaging" service and warns that the item becomes "incomplete"; its price is not published. We could not verify whether a standard shoebox is kept or removed by default, so ask support for your specific pair before you rely on either outcome.
| Choice | Parcel effect | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Box kept | Bulky; volume usually sets the price | Nothing, and the shoe is protected |
| Box removed (service) | Smaller pack, lower chargeable weight | Item shown as incomplete; price not published |
| Pair in a bag only | Compact but crushable | Shape protection; resale presentation |
| Reinforcement | Adds a little weight | About ¥10 per item plus materials in the interface |
Decide about the box per pair, because it can move a parcel from one price band to the next.
Volumetric weight: divisor 8000 versus 6000
LitBuy's help says the parcel is billed on the larger of its actual and volumetric weights. The volumetric figure multiplies the three box dimensions in centimetres and divides by a divisor that depends on the line. On 19 October 2026 the estimator listed 8000 for most Tax free DHL, GOFO and Royal Mail lines, and 6000 for EMS, ETK and EUB lines and some USPS and DPD lines. A smaller divisor makes the same box count as heavier.
Take an assumed shoebox of 32×22×13 cm. That is 9,152 cubic centimetres. At 8000 it counts as 1.144 kg, and at 6000 as 1.525 kg, whatever the pair weighs. The cheapest German line, LIT-Economy-DHL-DE, uses 8000 and allows 60×50×40 cm. The EMS line HF-EMS-DE uses 6000 and is a "Duties Payable by Recipient" line, so it is both more expensive per kilo and means you also owe German import VAT (19%) and any duty on delivery.
| Divisor | Volumetric weight | Chargeable weight | Typical line |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8000 | 1.144 kg | 1.144 kg | LIT-Economy-DHL-DE |
| 6000 | 1.525 kg | 1.525 kg | HF-EMS-DE |
LitBuy bills your prepayment on the estimated weight (the sum of inbound item weights), then recalculates after packing on chargeable weight. An overpayment is refunded to your LitBuy wallet within 72 hours of shipping if the difference exceeds one billing increment, and a shortfall must be paid before dispatch. Read our LitBuy shipping cost page for the full quote table.
Keep the packed box under the smaller number of the two weights and the 8000 line prices you fairly.
The ¥7 shoe video and what to ask it to show
Routine QC on LitBuy is generally 3 to 6 photos, and extra photos cost ¥1 each (about €0.12). For footwear the interface also offers a single video of about 20 seconds for CNY 7, about €0.84, and warns not to choose it for non-footwear. Promotions have at times made custom photos free, so check what your account shows. For a shoe, a video answers things a still cannot: how the sole bends, whether the pair is symmetrical, and how long the insole really is.
- A ruler along the insole, held beside the heel and toe, to compare with the chart length.
- The pair side by side from behind, to see lean or uneven heels.
- The sole and stitching in close-up, including glue lines.
- The size tag inside the tongue, so the label matches your order.
LitBuy's inspection checks quantity, colour, size and specification, but it does not cover colour difference or size error, so the video is your evidence. A wrong pair can be sent back only if you ask within 5 days (120 hours) of stocking; second-hand pairs and pairs with tags removed are excluded. Our LitBuy spreadsheet with QC page covers the photo routine in detail.
Pay ¥7 for the video before the pair ships, not after it arrives in the wrong size.
Schuhgröße EU, US, UK: choosing a size without a universal table
Shoe sizes from Taobao, Weidian and 1688 sellers come in the seller's own labels, often with a foot-length column in centimetres. LitBuy publishes no conversion between EU, US and UK sizes, and we could not verify a single table that every seller follows, so we give a method rather than numbers. Measure your foot at the end of the day, heel to longest toe, and write the number in centimetres. Then go to the listing's chart, find the row that matches, and copy its EU, US and UK labels into your sheet. If the chart has no foot length, ask the seller or choose another row.
| Field | Where it comes from | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Foot length (cm) | Your own measurement | The only fixed reference |
| Listing size label | The seller's chart | Labels differ between sellers |
| EU / US / UK | Read from the same chart row | Avoids a guessed conversion |
| Insole length from the video | The ¥7 video with a ruler | Confirms the chart |
| Fit note | Seller or sheet | Narrow, wide or true to the chart |
Foot length in centimetres is the reference; copy the sizes from the listing's chart, not from memory.
Worked example: a pair with and without the box, to Germany
On 19 October 2026 the estimator priced 1,000 g at €24.12 ($27.10) and 2,000 g at €38.75 ($43.53) to Germany on LIT-Economy-DHL-DE, which LitBuy marks Tax free with 10 to 15 working days. The pair costs ¥259 (about €31.08 at ¥1 ≈ €0.12). Weights and dimensions are assumptions for this example. We bill the nearest quoted weight at or above the chargeable weight; LitBuy's exact billing between quotes is not something we could verify.
A. Boxed pair (assumed 0.9 kg, box 32×22×13 cm)
Trainers ¥259about €31.08
Volumetric 9,152 ÷ 8000 = 1.144 kg → 2,000 g quote€38.75
EU €2 parcel fee (submitted after 25 Oct)€2.00
Total to Germanyabout €71.83
B. Pair without the box (assumed 0.6 kg, bagged 30×20×11 cm)
Trainers ¥259about €31.08
Volumetric 6,600 ÷ 8000 = 0.825 kg → 1,000 g quote€24.12
EU handling fee€2.00
Total to Germanyabout €57.20
On this method removing the box saves €14.63. If LitBuy bills in a straight line between its quotes, which we cannot confirm, A would cost about €26.23 and B about €21.56, so the saving shrinks to about €4.67 and the box-removal service fee (unpublished) must be subtracted. The quote already holds the €3 flat EU prepayment, so we left it out of the sum. The honest summary is that the box can be worth anywhere from a few euros to about €15 on one pair, and that a rehearsal parcel costing about €2.40 shows which end applies. Use the LitBuy shipping calculator to test your own weights.
The box is worth between roughly €5 and €15 on a single pair, so decide per pair, not by habit.
Slides, running shoes and pairs together: stacking a haul
Slides are thin, running shoes light but bulky, boots heavy and tall; the packed size matters more than the category. Two pairs in one parcel share the €2 handling fee and the operation fee, which is the main reason to combine. In our no-box example one pair counted as 0.825 kg and used the 1,000 g quote of €24.12. Two stacked pairs, assumed to pack at 30×20×22 cm, count as 1.65 kg and use the 2,000 g quote of €38.75, so the second pair adds €14.63 of shipping.
That is well below the €24.12 the second pair would cost alone, but only as long as the stack stays within the 2 kg band and the carrier's size limit. LIT-Economy-DHL-DE allows 60×50×40 cm. For France the cheapest quoted line, LIT-Quickly-GOFO-FR, was €23.75 ($26.68) at 1 kg and €38.38 ($43.12) at 2 kg on 19 October 2026; the UK line FF-Royalmail-GB-1 was £16.87 ($22.49) and £28.44 ($37.91); the US line FF-GOFO-US-2 was $37.41 and $65.92. The second pair adds about 61% (Germany) and 62% (France) of the first pair's shipping, about 69% in the UK and about 76% in the US.

Either way, pay each order as you place it; after 90 free storage days LitBuy bills 0.2% of the price paid daily, minimum ¥1 per item. Our LitBuy spreadsheets guide shows how to test shoe links before you plan a parcel around them.
Combine pairs only up to the next weight band; beyond it the second pair stops being cheap.
Questions buyers ask
Does the shoebox count in LitBuy's shipping weight?
Yes, if the box stays on. LitBuy weighs the packed parcel, and its help says the original box is normally removed and items repacked in self-sealing bags, though fragile or oversized items may keep the box. We could not verify what happens to a standard shoebox, so ask support before you rely on it. The Remove Original Packaging service exists, but LitBuy does not publish its price.
Why was my shoe parcel charged for more than it weighed?
Volumetric weight. LitBuy compares actual weight with length × width × height in centimetres divided by 8000 on most Tax free lines, and 6000 on EMS and EUB lines, then bills the larger. An assumed 32×22×13 cm shoebox is 9,152 cubic centimetres, so 1.144 kg at 8000 and 1.525 kg at 6000, even if the pair weighs 0.9 kg.
Is the ¥7 shoe video worth paying for?
For pairs where fit or finish matters, usually yes. LitBuy's interface lists CNY 7 for a single video of about 20 seconds, roughly €0.84, and says not to choose it for non-footwear items. That is far less than one wrong-size parcel, which costs at least €24.12 to ship to Germany at 1 kg. Extra still photos cost ¥1 each, so a video plus two photos is under €1.10.
Should I remove the shoebox to save on shipping?
It depends on the pair. In our assumed example, dropping the box cut the chargeable weight from 1.144 kg to 0.825 kg, saving between about €4.67 and €14.63 on the Germany quote depending on how LitBuy bills between quotes. The trade-off is protection and resale: LitBuy warns that removing original packaging makes the item incomplete, and the service price is not published.
How do I choose between EU, US and UK size on a Taobao shoe listing?
Ignore the label and use foot length. Measure heel to longest toe in centimetres, then find that number on the listing's own chart and read off the EU, US or UK size shown there. LitBuy publishes no universal conversion and does not check size error, so a one-line chart note, or a video with a ruler in the insole, is better evidence than any table.
What does a second pair add to a shoe parcel to Germany?
In our no-box example one pair counted as 0.825 kg, so LitBuy's 1,000 g quote of €24.12 applied. Two stacked pairs counted as 1.65 kg, so the 2,000 g quote of €38.75 applied. The second pair therefore added €14.63 of shipping, against €24.12 for the first. Weights and dimensions are assumptions for the example, and the €2 EU fee applies once per parcel.
